KINGSTON VITA INTERNAZIONALE S.C.
2006 Outdoor Season The 2006 season was one of great success for the club in all major competitions. The team began the season as huge underdogs in the Kingston Soccer Tournament and ended up acquiring Silver hardware eliminating teams from Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston's A division on the way. Once again in Peterborough's Mark Forster Memorial the team was a huge underdog in the 30 team tournament, which included Kingston's Fever. When all was said and done the team ended up elminating teams from Trenton, Vaughan, Ottawa and the defending tournament champs from Toronto to take home the title. To top it all off the team became the first B division team ever to capture the A/B division's President's Cup with a final victory over A division league champs Soccer Post.

2006 KINGSTON PRESIDENTS CUP CHAMPIONS!!

PRESIDENTS CUP FINAL
Vita Internazionale 2
Soccer Post Arsenal 1

Without the likes of key players Gencarelli, Bernardino, and Agostino the team knew it was in tough against a powerful Soccer Post opponent. Arsenal, who has only 1 league loss this year in Kingston 1st division left Vita to play the role of the clear underdog, a role which the team has enjoyed thoroughly in its storied history. The team came out of the gates hard with Sal Cutrona making good on a lengthy run inside of 10 minutes putting the team up by 1. If the A division giants were caught napping this woke them up as they pushed forward putting pressure on a rock-solid Vita defence that was coordinated by towering keeper Pietro Cutrona. Having already taken the lead early there was no need for the team to push forward in large numbers until the opposition gave them a reason to, so playing intelligent defensively became a priority. Just before the end of the first half, Vita was awarded a freekick in a dangerous area to the left of the S.P. goal. An S. Cutrona deadball effort just missed the top shelf, which was the only other real scoring chance in the first. The second half saw a high quantity of S.P. possession, but to no avail until late in the game when a looping chip led to scramble in front of the Vita goal which ended up in the back of the net. With a few minutes left in the game Vita was awarded a free kick to the right of the S.P. goal. Enter Vito Cutrona, for the long-range dead ball specialist it was just another day at the office. He struck the ball in spectacular fashion bending and dipping it into the bottom right corner, effectively securing the team’s second major championship in as many weeks. Tim Dowling, Dan Frid, Jamie Nix, and Justin Schomberg all had typically dominant performances at the back. The midfield was particularly strong with Paulo Soares, Bryce Ellis, Steve Fowler, and Mike Pacheco all in top form. For their efforts the favourites are to be commended, as a resounding majority of the Soccer Post team proved that they are true champions; graceful and classy both in winning and defeat.

PRESIDENTS CUP SEMI-FINAL
Vita Internazionale 2
Sleep Factory United 1

Perhaps due to the success experienced over long tiring weekend in Peterborough the team came out quite sluggish, but very confident nonetheless. The team controlled play, which led to several early chances that did not amount to anything of significance. Trying to mix things up Coach Vito Cutrona made several subs late into the first and one of those changes paid immiediate dividends. Dan Bernardino, returning from a month-long layoff, beat several defenders and was sure to score when he was taken out from behind in the box leading to a clear penalty. Chris Gencarelli made no mistake and converted from the area putting Vita up headng into halftime. The second half saw SF United score off of a penalty of their own and manage to keep the Vita attacks out of their goal despite several good chances on net. Until, Bernardino who once again came off of the bench then beat several defenders en route to a calm crisp finish, which pretty much closed the door on the newly promoted SF United side. The team will be playing in their third final of the year (ABEL CUP, MARK FORSTER MEMORIAL) on Friday at Woodbine against an opponent that has yet to be determined.

PRESIDENTS CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Vita Internazionale 2
Rangers 0

After taking out El Salvador another A division team the squad was confident heading into the game with A division powerhouse Rangers. Missing some key players due to suspension both Sal Cutrona and Paulo Soares the team had to change around its lineup quite a bit. Mike Pacheco scored early in the first with a spectacular freekick strike putting the team up 1-0. Pietro Cutrona held off an early Rangers onslaught before the defence acquired its composure and shut down the powerful Rangers attack. In the second half, Vito Cutrona struck one from about 30 yards out pinning it in the top shelf leaving the keeper with no chance. The team will meet B division leaders Sleep Factory in the Semi-Finals on the 18th of August.

Tournament MVP: Eduardo Macedo
Keeper Pietro Cutrona 5 Tournament Shutouts

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale S.C. (4 - 0) Woolwich Thunder (Kitchener)

Opening the tourney with very high expectations the team did not disappoint. Early goals from Emilio Nicosia and Eduardo Macedo allowed for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Macedo opened the scoring with an unreal effort diving for a ball at crossbar height inside the six and drilling into the top left with his head. Nicosia assisting on Macedo's first had the favour returned receiving a beautiful pass inside the 18 and finishing it professionally with ease. The second half was much of the same with Paulo Soares scoring on an unbelieveable individual effort and Macedo adding his second of the tourney. Pietro Cutrona picked up the shutout.

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale S.C. (2 - 2) Thornhill Blues

The team opened this game impressively, Macedo scoring with a surgical touch. Emilio Nicosia then added his second of the tournament with a phenomenal volley off of a Jamie Nix cross. The team headed into halftime up 2-0. During the second half, different formations and lineups were experimented with. The result of this was a few chances for Thornhill which they finished in spectacular fashion, punishing the team twice before the final whistle and leaving keeper Pietro Cutrona with no chance on either one.

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale S.C. (2 - 0) Toronto Kickers United

The team drew one of the tougher groups and 2005 Mark Forster Champions Toronto Kickers United were the most difficult. Needing at least a tie to finish top of the group the team came into this one with a lot of pressure on their shoulders. The game was fought in the midfield early on, both teams testing each other out neither willing to open up to a counter attack knowing what was on the line. The Vita defence led by sweeper Hernan Parada and including the speedy Chris Pacheco, the towering presence of Chris Farrell and the best left back in the tournament Tim Dowling, played like a professional back four. About half way into the first the first Macedo was released by Sal Cutrona down the left side. Only able to contain, the defender could only watch as Macedo laid a perfect swinging cross into the path of Nicosia, which was finished in an unbelieveble fashion ending up in the top corner. In the second half Macedo dropped to the midfield, where he Soares, Nix, and Bryce Ellis dominated play. Early on in the second, Nicosia beat a defender and spotted a streaking Macedo alone on the right hand side. Picking up Nicosia's pin-point pass, Macedo walked in untouched and polished off another, effectively ending the tournament for the reigning champs. Keeper Pietro Cutrona made several key saves earning his 2nd tournament shutout.

Quarter-Finals
Vita Internazionale S.C. (2 - 0) A.C. Fiorentina Ottawa

Going undefeated in the group stage, the team faced a confident and skilled side from the nation's capital. The Vita defence played rock solid in this game and on this day especially. Again led by sweeper Parada, center-back Farrell (who was a monster), and wing-backs Tim Dowling and Mike Pacheco who were causing problems offensively for the other team. About midway through the first Sal Cutrona took a pass from Soares and then unleashed a shot on net, which came off of the crossbar landing in front of the net. Nicosia came in like a freight train and was fouled in the process of scoring what was a sure goal. Macedo scored the penalty with ease putting the team up 1-0 heading into halftime. The second half saw Macedo push back to midfield where he dominated play. Early on in the second Sal Cutrona received a Paulo Soares pass, and was able to beat the keeper with a shot effectively sealing the deal. Pietro Cutrona had yet another flawless performance picking up his 3rd shutout of the tournament.

Semi-Finals
Vita Internazionale S.C. (1 - 0)PK Trenton Sockers

This speedy young Trenton team was not to be underestimated. Playing a very defensive style game they were able to advance to the semi's. Vita's defence again was up to the task coordinating with the huge presence of keeper Cutrona the defensive performance was spectacular. Despite the fact that the team peppered the Trenton goal with some quality chances the team was unable to finish them off. The tournmante setup was without overtime, so the game went to penalties. Macedo, Parada, P.Cutrona all scored clinically, which left it up to Justin Schomberg for a 5th shot that had to be scored. Schomberg showed why he is considered one of the best in the business during high pressure moments easily polishing off his first of the tourney. This gave everyone on the team a massive boost and most importantly Pietro Cutrona who is known for his ridiculous ability to stop penalities. He steped up and with a sweet dive pushing away the 6th Trenton effort, this provided Chris Farrell with the opportunity to win it for the team, which he did ringing it off the post and leaving the keeper with no chance.

Finals
Vita Internazionale S.C. (2 - 0) Vaughan Kickers

In front of a large crowd of spectators the team entered the finals having to sport their white jerseys for the first time in the tournament. The Vaughan team had just eliminated a strong team from Brampton and was definitely on a high. Vaughan had been led by two quick punishing forwards and tight defence not unlike the team from Kingston. Vita came to play though and was never losing this one. Early on in the first a long swooping Pietro Cutrona goalkick found the head of Nicosia who somehow knew Macedo was firing on all cylinders diagonally to his backside. Nicosia flicked a perfect pass on to the feet of Macedo, which he controlled while leaving defenders in his dust. Macedo made absolutely no mistake finishing the goal in front the huge crowd with ease and everyone went nuts. Dropping back to midfield Macedo helped the team possess the ball for a very large part of the 1st half. The second half was opened with Nicosia being fouled deep into Vaughan territory. Sal Cutrona drilled his freekick effort off the bar with Tim Dowling almost tucking away the rebound. Then it was time for Macedo to jump to the forefront once again, beating a defender decisiviely he unleashed a tricky left footed shot that found its was through traffic to the back of the net. More celebration ensued and the deal to the tournament championship was almost sealed. Still there were hard minutes of team defence to put in and Parada, Mike Pacheco, Farrell, Dowling, and Pietro Cutrona did not disappoint. This crew dominated perhaps more decisively then they had earlier in the tourney and against more difficult competition. The final whistle blew and there were new Mark Forster Champions.

ABEL CUP 2006 (Kingston)

Final
Vita Internazionale SC 0
Soccer Post Arsenal 5

The reigning ABEL Cup champs were too much for the squad to handle on this day. Missing three key starters who were able to play in the other tournament games and with no substitutions the wheels fell off pretty hard in this one. This game also marked the end of the teams 9 game unbeaten streak in which they'd begun this years campaign with. Great efforts were put in by all and the team was quite satisfied with an improved 2nd place finish (last year the team went out in the semi's) with over 20 teams competing in the tourney. Striker Pietro Cutrona was honoured in the final ceremony taking home the tournament's golden boot award scoring a monumental 9 goals in only 7 games.

Semi-Final
Vita Internazionale SC 1
Calabria Italia 0

Pietro Cutrona scored early in the match, which made all of the difference in this defenisive struggle. The midfield and defense played particularly well with Vito Cutrona notching his 4th shutout of the tournament.

Quarter-Final
Vita Internazionale SC 3
Pierrefonds Cobras 0

The squad came out blazing in this one with Pietro Cutrona scoring twice within the first 5 minutes. The first being a phenomenal individual effort and the second being a tight finish ending a sweet passing play. Pierrefonds pushed hard early in the second, but could not produce any significant chances on goal. Pietro Cutrona secured his hat trick late in the second on a brilliant pass from keeper Vito Cutrona, who had his 3rd tournament shutout when all was said and done.

Round 2
Vita Internazionale SC 2
Ottawa Crown Heights 1

An excellent defensive performance against a very skilled squad. Ottawa controlled much of the play, but managed very few scoring chances. Steve Murano opened the scoring with a strike from well beyond the 18 yard box. After Ottawa tied the game up, late in the second, the game went into golden goal overtime. About 2 minutes into the extra time Pietro Cutrona finished an excellent passing play to give Vita a quaterfinal berth.

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale SC 3
Guelph Gunners 1

After having already clinched first place in their division prior to the final group stage game, the team started off quite slowly. Paulo Soares woke the squad up suddenly with a phenomenal strike from well outside the 18 yard box. Pietro Cutrona managed to polish another 2 spectacular efforts, which pretty much sealed the deal mid way through the second.

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale SC 3
Ottawa St. Anthony's Italia 0

Phenomenal control displayed by the squad throughout the match. Pietro Cutrona tucked away two goals and set up another. Tian Liang polished off the remaining goal showing some nice speed in doing so. Vito Cutrona picked up his second clean sheet in as many tries.

Group Stage
Vita Internazionale SC 0
Calabria Italia 0

An all around strong team defensive performance. The squad could not pull out a victory despite midfielder Sal Cutrona's two cross-bar efforts. Shutout picked up by Vito Cutrona.
